mommy necklaces.
have you heard of these before? i saw them offered on a baby deals site, and everyone was raving about them and so i checked out the website. no, they aren't meant to be chewed on, like some other necklaces for mom's. this one is a sensory necklace for little ones, with interesting beads and other shaped dangles. i "liked" them on facebook, and found that they were running a special for facebook fans, so i bought my first mommy necklace. i have to tell you that i am now hooked. i've read all about how their followers have been matching outfits specifically to their mommy necklaces, and i found myself doing that today too when i opened the package to wear it today.
anyways, i just wanted to share how much i love my necklace, and how i think that i just found the items i'll be asking for for my birthday. totally and utterly and supremely cute!!

girl's bows and accessories!
a friend of mine introduced me to a girl's hairbow and accessory site this week, where korker bows and felt clips are super reasonably priced. they also carry legwarmers, some as low as 1.29(!) and most available for 3.99. (don't tell babylegs... i feel like i'm cheating on them!) anyways, if you're looking for some great gifts for the sweet girl in your life, check out the site. some of my fave picks? the crochet hat and the crochet flower hair clips. each one is less than 5 dollars!! such a steal!!
one other perk? she's local... out of wadsworth, ohio. and she can be found at local craft shows all around the northeast ohio area.
thanks, melanie!!

clearance at kmart.
speaking of kmart, i went to check out some sales there today and found that knits for boys and girls, marked down to 2.99, are an additional 40% off, making them a little over 1.50 each. cute little tees and tanks and leggings for girls, polos and shorts for boys. i stocked up on some lggings for my daughter... rainbow polka dots and stripey ones, plus some solids. i know the sale will get even better, as last year, i raided the area for swimsuits that were 1.50 and short sets for less than 2 bucks. check the folded towers of knits for anyone 5T and under for now...

a chance to do some good.
my friend sara has started a charity called "forget me not baskets". she supplies bereavement baskets to moms and families who have lost a child during pregnancy or childbirth.
she has been accepted into pepsi's "refresh everything" campaign, where she has the opportunity to receive 25,000 dollars toward her charity. the catch? out of 1,100 ideas submitted to the campaign, she has to be voted into the Top 10. that's where you come in. please go vote for her charity here, and either register or sign in using your facebook account. if you're on facebook, you can also help promote the voting by clicking the little "f" for facebook along the righthand side. encourage your friends to vote! voting is happening through the end of the month, so please vote daily. you can also monitor what place the charity is in daily by using the link above.
a million thanks to you (and your friends!) for helping out such a worthy cause. and thanks for helping out by voting and promoting!

i was reading in my latest parents magazine about a newsletter they will send out this summer called "camp mom". they had a preview in the issue of what it will be like, and it's filled with boredom busters for the kids for lazy hazy summer days. indoor activities and outdoor activities, crafts, food, etc. if you'd like a copy sent to your inbox, go here to sign up for it. look for "camp mom" near the big picture on the left side. looks like thee is a lot of fun for the taking this summer!

greatest hits.
so the thing about coupons lately that has been for me is that i'm trying out things that i may not normally try. and some of the things, i really really like! love, even! so this post is an attempt to log the stuff that i have tried that falls into that category... my greatest coupon hits.
first of all, i'd like to reveal here my love for the new no-touch automatic soap dispenser by lysol. it retails for around 10 bucks, and it comes with the dispenser, the soap and the battery to power it. refills for the soap run between 3 and 4 dollars. three scents for the soap: a ginger one, a cucumber melon one and a grapefruit one. i've tried the first two scents and like them both. this thing comes in handy in the kitchen when my hands are all slimy from cooking something and i don't have to touch anything to get the soap to wash off the slime. it also helped my son gets excited about washing his hands in the bathroom... i'll take all the help i can get there. :)
second, i got sent some samples by general foods international for their caramel latte. you just add it to warm milk, stir and it even gets a little frothy on the top. good flavor when added to skim milk.
third, my everpure shampoo by l'oreal. it's sulfate-free, which my stylist recommended. it suds up nicely, smells really good, and makes my hair have really good-hair days. can't say that about all shampoos.
fourth, i've also tried john frieda's root awakening spray lately, and had much success with awakening my roots. they gave me a free comb attached to the bottle, and i really like the comb too. i was all body and shine and volume. thanks, john. :)
fifth and finally, my nivea body wash. i got in on a good deal for it at cvs, and bought the touch of happiness scent. i usually wash my body two or three times in the shower just to smell the stuff. it feels moisturizer-y and it lathers up nicely, as well. everything that one could desire from their body wash.

dinnertime!
to my husband's dismay, i am forver ripping out recipes from all my magazines and piling up the pages. he hates this habit of mine.
however, this month, there will be a special edition of family fun magazine called "dinnertime!" and it will showcase 98 of their best dinner ideas. i am soooo loving that idea. not only is their food usually family-friendly, but also fun to help get the kids involved in making. AND there won't be crazy pages all over the house, which i'm sure a certain someone will very much enjoy. the ad that i saw for it said that it would be out at major newsstands and bookstores. can't wait to grab my copy!!

(today's session was super cold and windy... we are going to try again in warmer temps and sundress weather). if you'd like to see her work, check out her blog here. you can also check out more of her work (think: the most amazing disney pics EVER) on her facebook page here.
thanks megan!! i can already tell that i'm going to end up with some AMAZING pics of the kids. can't wait to see what other photos you have up your sleeve in the coming months!! :)

i'm not getting paid to say this or anything, but the new soap that they have in an automatic dispenser ROCKS. i had a coupon for 5 dollars off of it, so i got it for around 4 dollars at wal-mart a few weeks ago. the starter kit comes with the dispenser, a soap and the batteries. my original thought was that it might make my 4 year old more excited to wash his hands since it comes out automatically. well, i've fallen on love with it, as has he. (that's the fun part of coupons... you get to try things that you might not otherwise ever get.) check out the info here.

i lovelovelove this shampoo. the gal who did my hair during my "shop your closet" experience recommended highly getting a shampoo and conditioner that don't contain sulfates. what i appreciated about her recommendation was that it wasn't for some super-high-end shampoo that costs a billion dollars to buy. and re-buy. i sorta went floundering into the store, searching for a product line that was sulfate-free (helps color to last longer, is better for your hair) and stumbled across the l'oreal line. i've already gone through one bottle of the shampoo for colored hair... i love the stuff. if you'd like to try out a sample for yourself, go here. it lathers up really nicely and smells great.
thanks, target!

exclusive all you magazine coupons.
just when i thought i'd seen all the coupons.com coupons there were, i just found some more through the all you magazine website. on it, they have some coupons for green works cleaning products, which i happened to notice yesterday at cvs were on clearance. could make for a great deal. check out the exclusive coupons here and check out the website, too. i was sad about chopping up my last issue for all the coupons, but some of the articles can be found online. i actually really like this magazine... can't believe that i just started buying it!

cvs trip this morning.
i spent 1.20 oop (out of pocket) this morning at cvs. i bought two schick shaving creams (cost 2.79 each, got back 1.80 for each in ecb's), two thermacare heat wraps (cost 2.49, got back 2.49 each in ecb's...free wraps!!) and bought a green bag tag for 99 cents and got back 99 cents in ecb's. the reason i paid 1.20? i had 17 dollars in ecb's, but if i used them all, i would have been owed money by cvs. i'll gladly pay 1.2o for those items... it's like i practically paid nothing!! and i got back almost everything in ecb's to use for next time!! no wonder people shop at cvs! with a little money "up front" (yesterday's trip cost me 30-something dollars), i will now be paying for all my trips with previous ecb's i've earned!
target: possibly free shirts, handbags, and hosiery!
go here to print off the coupons good for dollars off of merona shirts for women and men, handbags, and hosiery items. you can use these coupons on clearance items, and can print them twice. remember that all clearance stuff varies by store, but you just may able to score a great deal by scouring the racks. good luck!

any ideas for remembering reuseable bags?
i am forever forgetting mine, always seeing the sign on the way in the store and hitting my forehead with my palm at my forgetfulness. i'd love your ideas for remembering to take them either in the car or in the store... i suffer from both problems. :)
cvs' green bag tag, explained.
go here for the details!
thanks i heart cvs!
and just fyi, you can get one this week for 99 cents, with 99 cents in ecb's given back to you. they are literally giving you money!!

coupon binder!
Front: Deal/ Sale highlights for the week
The baseball sheets before being filled
The envelopes for each store in the binder pocket and the first of the baseball sheets
Coupons in each category that are about to expire
Internet coupons (don't fit in baseball sheets)
Restaurant coupons
Retail coupons
Back inside binder pocket: Current circulars for the week
yeah, i went with a binder. i did a bunch of baseball card holders for inside... they hold about 9 coupons on a side, so each page holds 18 coupons (30 pages for 4.99 at target). plus, for internet coupons, i grabbed a thing of two-pocket colored file folders and in the front i put coupons that are about to expire, and in the back, i put the internet coupons that were too big for the baseball card slots. in the back pocket of the binder, i put the latest circulars, and in the front pocket, i have envelopes that are designated by store. when i see a sale for something that i know i have a coupon for, i stick it in the envelope. i have one more section to add, which is those clear page inserts, so that i can stick each store's current coupon policy in there. :)
the sections i have for coupons in the baseball card pages and the file folders are: food, home, personal care, baby... with additional space devoted in the pocket folders for restaurant coupons, and retail coupons.
the front pocket, outside of the binder has room for a slip of paper that has the coupon highlights for the week... sales i don't want to miss. i write down if something earns ecb's at cvs, or if i have multiple coupons (store and manufacturer) for an item and what i expect to pay for it. it helps me keep track of the deals i see online, because it's all organized by store.

breakdown of my cvs purchase:
2 pks. pampers diapers (8.49 each)
1 3-pack of cvs paper towels (2.50)
1 schick hydro razor (8.97)
1 cvs lotion (1.99)
1 axe deodorant (1.24)
1 degree deodorant (1.19)
1 dove shampoo (4.49)
total after ecb's and coupons: 14.36!!
how?
i printed out my cvs coupons when i went in at the crt machine and got 1.50 in ecb's, 1 dollar off a cvs paper product, 1 dollar off a cvs skin care product: 3.50 in savings
the razor was 8.97, but gave 6 dollars in ecb's, plus i had a 3 dollar off coupon, so i made 3 cents on that.
i had 1.50 off each of the diapers.
the dove shampoo was 4.49, but gave 4.49 in ecb's, plus i had a 2 dollar off coupon, so i made 2 dollars buying that.
i had a 4 dollars off a 20 dollar purchase coupon that they emailed me, and a 3 dollar off birthday coupon they emailed me.
in all, i saved 24.50 with ecb's and coupons, plus my last transaction earned me 4.49 in ecb's to use later.
i could have done better, i'm sure, but i'm still a novice, AND was under time crunch to get home. in all, i'm thrilled!! :)

all you.
here are two great cheap magazines to get, and they contains gobs of coupons. "all you" magazine can be found at the wal-mart checkout. i paid 2.49 for my april issue, which contains 81 dollars worth of coupons. inside april's issue is a coupon for a free rimmel cosmetic... which means that that alone pays for the mag for the month.
another good one is "reinventing beauty" that is 99 cents at cvs. i can't give you a coupon dollar amount, but i promise it's worth your 99 pennies. :)

got milk?
from my friend christy:
I had to tell someone about my find today, and I thought of you and your blog! Hartzler's Dairy (located on Cleveland Rd., just north of Smithville-Western) is selling their milk this week for $2 plus bottle deposit, which is a savings of $1.50ish. I don't know if you've ever tried it, but it is organic, pastuerized, but non-homogenized (meaning the cream rises to the top). My son is lactose intolerant, but can drink their milk (something about their process makes it easier to digest.) Their website is www.hartzlersfamilydairy.com if you want to check it out. I'm a big fan of their products, especially of the ice cream!
thanks, christy!! we love their chocolate milk!! :)

coupon binder.
i spent the better part of yesterday early evening and after the kids went to bed organizing a coupon binder for myself. my dream is to take some pictures of it and explain how i will use it for you all, because (i don't know about you) i was being swallowed up by the clutter that loose coupons everywhere was creating. i had coupons here and there and in there and down there and over there and still at the computer. now, all my coupons are in one place, and the best part? it's now portable and highly organized. i have a spot for everything, and even more available spots for the things that i haven't even thought of. yay for organization!!

some fun stuff at buehler's.
two things to post about here from buehler's:
1) i happened to spot some syrups in the coffee aisle that looked just right for making italian sodas. i had one at the lodi station on sunday when i went to pick up the future engineer kit i won on facebook, and took note of how they were made... pausing mentally to almost-ask if the syrups were for sale... you know, the whole big bottle they use for flavoring coffees and drinks. well, as i was shopping at buehler's, i noticed that there in the middle of the aisle, a bunch of bottles are set up on display and what were they? the syrups, like i said. anyways, on with the post. mix about 1 to 2 T. of your fave flavor of syrup, (mine was strawberry) with enough plain club soda to fill a glass. instantly italian, for waaaay less. i put mine in a really fun glass i have, and then pretend that i am somewhere in italy, sipping it while sitting on an outdoor terrace... whatever. you can pretend whatever you want. :)
2) i have been seeing posting's on my fave savings blog (hip2save.com) about a cosmetic company called e.l.f. (eyes lips face) that sells everything for a dollar. that's right, one buck. i was strolling through buehler's after picking up my prescription, and happened upon the cosmetics aisle, which actually is pretty awesome (for a grocery store). i saw a rack devoted to e.l.f. cosmetics and tools, and i started flipping through it. in short, i got a mirrored compact, a new eyelash curler, an all-over-color stick (blush, lipstick, eyeshadow), a mascara that has two ends (waterproof and regular), and something else that escapes me at the moment, all for 5 bucks. i also noticed that they had stuff by tom's of maine, kiss my face, and some really awesome huge handmade-looking soaps for pretty cheap. who knew that buehler's might be my next best make-up destination?

almost famous!!
but not quite yet... that will come on friday. ;)
check out the post here on the blog for "shop your closet", which introduces you to me and my wardrobe. it was in sad shape, having been all but neglected since the birth of my first baby. being a deal shopper, i would pick up things here and there for myself (you know, like a 2 dollar tee shirt from old navy), sort of ignoring whether it was flattering on me. well, i'm done with that. i will be, from here on out, actually taking the time to try things on, and ask opinions from others on whether or not it's a keeper. susan and betsy gave me a good jump-start into realizing that my wardrobe can once again be fabulous... and i deserve to be fabulous as well! :)

the big news.
the big news around here (i know, it's kinda sad that this is considered BIG) is that gymboree is opening an outlet in lodi. the website still says that it opens tomorrow (3/3). it will be located right next to children's place, thus sealing our children's clothing "trifecta" all in a row of gymboree, children's place, and carters. yippee!
here is a children's place coupon
here is a carters coupon... it expires tomorrow
**thanks to missy who was on the "front line" today and attempted using the coupon for gymboree outlet. i thought that the code for the coupon was universal, as that same coupon came up in several spots on the web. evidentally, they said that the code had already been used, and gave her a hard time for using it, but still gave her the 15% off. my apologies to missy, and to anyone else who had trouble using it...

pampers gifts to grow.
pampers gifts to grow is a great little way to get some freebies after buying what you need (pampers diapers) already. i've been collecting points since danny was born, and i've traded the points in for toys, magazine subscriptions and photos, while other people i know have gotten free movie nights and other great rewards.
the points are inside all pampers diapers products, including wipes and easy ups. you go to http://www.pampers.com/ to join (find the link there for gifts to grow), then add your codes and redeem them on the rewards page. here's 30 points to get you started.
GTGTEAMUSA2010 is a 30 point code. i'll post more as i see them.
huggies diapers also has a similar program, called enjoy the ride. i'll post about it later.
thanks, lisa!

post-holiday shopping.
so this is my new (cheap) way to get fun stuff for parties and gifts for people. it requires a little digging sometimes, which i know some of us hate to do. but, in this instance, sometimes things work out for the best.
so the holiday we just passed is valentine's day, so i'll use that as my example. (easter is coming up... you can use this info soon, i promise!) a lot of stores put together an aisle or two of seasonal/holiday merchandise... the best ones for doing this are stores like rite-aid, walgreens, and cvs. today, my focus was on jo-ann, however. i noticed a few weeks ago after taking a leisurely walk around the store that they had some really fun things for making candy or cookies in their valentine's set up. things like candy molds or cookie cutters or cupcake liners. i've been recently in need of some nostalgia, so i had asked my mom if she still had her clear plastic candy molds so we could make some candy for easter soon. my son loves the melted chocolate suckers, so she dug them out and we'll be in business. well, after perusing the valentine's day leftovers at jo-ann, i found a bunch of candy molds, cupcake liners with hearts, lip-shaped cookie cutters, etc., all at 50% off! since valentine's stuff is so sweet with hearts and lips, i figured that it would be fun to make some of these things for the people that i love, even when it's not valentine's day!
another nice score i made tonight was at wal-mart (i know, i keep saying that i'm not a fan... seriously if target was anywhere near here, you'd never hear me speak a word about wal-mart), where they had party decorations from val's day on sale. i use plastic tablecloths for my kids parties, so i got three red plastic tablecloths for 30 cents each!
some other places to check: target, kohl's, michael's, or hobby stores. i got some cute valentine's for my sons friends at school next year for a dollar each today at pat catan's. super sweet!

cheap books, coming right up!
the scholastic sale is coming up soon, and if you'd like to locate one near you, go here and either enter your zip code, or click on your state. under the sale that you'd like to go to, click on the "sign up" tab, then go to "parent registration" and create your account. this will lead you to another screen, where you skip all the entries and scroll to the bottom to print your fast-cart pass. this is how they track that you came to the sale... you get a unique code for yourself. it will tell you what sale you signed up to go to, and also give you a coupon for the sale!
i've gone to this sale about 4 times while we in maryland, so i can't tell you exactly what your sale venue will be like, but in maryland, the sale was actually at the scholastic warehouse! all the books were lined up on shelves, and in boxes, and the prices were clearly marked... nothing over 5 bucks. it's like a little version of heaven for children's book lovers, i promise!! :)

free magazines.
i wanted to post about a company called mercury magazines. they offer free subscriptions to magazines to people in different industries. so far, i've scored free subscriptions to ladies home journal, cosmo, and fitness magazine. the company sometimes refuses people, based on i don't know what criteria, so if you are told that they are out or that you don't qualify, don't be discouraged, just try again next time.
the current offer is for ladies home journal. you can link to it through here. they go fast, so hurry!
